Year 2009
WOW! What a year we have had.
Following the AGM in June 2008 there was an influx of
scouts moving up from 1st Felpham; it doubled our numbers to 12 before we
broke up for the summer holidays. Since the summer holidays the numbers of
members have gradually risen and now sits at 22 young people. The majority of
these have graduated from 1st Felpham Sea Scouts, however this does
not mean we are a specialised unit only accepting sea scouts, it just means
that at that particular time 1st Felpham had many numbers of the right age
ready to move on, recently some people have joined the unit from South Bersted
Air Scouts as we are a district based unit.
It is certainly a different challenge now with many more members in the unit
but just as fun.
Two teams entered 'Evasion 08', a hike for West Sussex explorers and Network and I am pleased to say that one of the teams, that consisted of Matt Stroud, Jack Cullen, Matt Baker-Irons and Lizzie Stroud won it by taking 1st place.
We entered a team of six explorers into the HMS Raleigh swimming gala in Plymouth. We competed against many RN recognised units from around the country and we are very proud to come back with two medals, in 1st place was Tom Holland in the breast stroke and a 2nd place medal was won by Kerrie Lewis.
We are actively running the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and currently have eight young people doing their bronze award, three people working towards their silver and one going for gold.
