Bognor Regis Carnival 3rd July 2011
FAO: GSL’s & Section Leaders, leaders and Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorers.

Bognor Scouts,
I am pleased to update you and request your assistance in preparation for the Bognor Carnival on July 3rd.
As you are aware a selection of Leaders volunteered to work together with a view to making this year’s event an all encompassing Bognor District Scouts occasion with expected participation at whatever level suits, of all Groups & Sections.
The purpose of this communication is to provide an update on where we are and what needs to be done in the remaining few weeks.
·         A truck has been booked and material to decorate it is being amassed – we will ask that different sections / Groups take on responsibility to prepare a part of the float decoration. We have access to the truck on Saturday 2nd therefore the final rigging will take place then.
·         Percussion equipment is being collected and at present we have a range of large medium & small items including 5 agogo bells. The DIY equipment may suffice however I am working on Felpham Community College to borrow some proper gear to tone up the quality but until this is agreed I will not commit. Chris Boreham at 1st Felpham 07922 663068 has access to cardboard cylinders with lids that will make good medium surdos, they could be cut down for tams & snares if required and with some customisation will look effective on the day and could be rigged up to carry. Coffee tins and higher pitched tones will be required but at a push your small billys etc will produce a suitable noise. Wendy Morris & Carol Sayers have pieces of leather if required for drum skins. Please consider making drumsticks suitable in size for the drum (ie cut down broom sticks for surdos)
·         Percussion practise, besides the 14th June at the Spur booked for a District practise we need to cram some more sessions in for anyone who can attend. Arctic Fox were fortunate in having booked a session before this idea was conceived and not only was it enjoyable we also learnt some key points. I have been talking to a local DIY drum player who was suggesting that he would help us but having had no response to emails & voicemails I am tempted to go it alone, I do believe that between us and with the 2 basic Samba rhythms I am working on we can do this ourselves. If any leader is a passive percussionist then now is your moment to step forward! I would like to propose the 7th June & the 28th June as two additional dates for practise at Brent Rd. I will confirm these by email.
·         We will need as many flag buckets as able on the day and volunteers to carry the flags of the world that Felpham are compiling. Stout Scouts would be best to carry flags on the day.
